Fox News Threatened to Sue The Simpsons
Over a Parody Segment

October 23, 2003
During an interview broadcast today on NPR's Fresh Air, Simpsons creator Matt Groening revealed that the Fox News Network had threatened to sue The Simpsons over a parody of the right-leaning news channel. The highly sensitive news organization, which is headed by Roger Ailes, made headlines this summer with an ill-starred lawsuit against humorist Al Franken's book, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. The Fox suit was thrown out in court and only succeeded in making Franken's book a bestseller. According to Groening, the Simpsons team refused to cut out the segment, which Groening told Fresh Air he "really liked," figuring that Rupert Murdoch wouldn't allow the Fox News cable network to sue the Fox Broadcast Network, which carries The Simpsons. The Fox News Network did back down on its threat, although it has told The Simpsons creators that in the future, cartoon series will not be allowed to include a "news crawl" along the bottom of the screen, which might "confuse the viewers."

Fans of Theron "The Black Diamond" Denson and all West Virginians, prepare
yourselves. This week’s issue of the weekly National Examiner
supermarket
tabloid features a full-page, multiple-photograph story on the Neil
Diamond
homage singer.

Apparently, the Examiner couldn’t resist an African-American West
Virginian
who belts out a darn good facsimile of the sound of Neil Diamond
singing "Sweet Caroline," "I Am I Said" and other signature tunes. It’s
a
skill that led to a career for the big-voiced, self-styled "Black
Diamond,"
who performed no fewer than 12 shows last month.

In a phone interview, Denson says he doesn’t quite know what to expect
from
the piece, which includes a doctored photo of Neil
Diamond
singing to him. An Examiner editor assured Denson: "It wasn’t something
you’ll be disappointed in."

"I asked them to please make sure they let people know how wonderful
West
Virginia is," he said.

Check out his page with music and video downloads-It really is amazing-I've seen him live and it is an astonishing experience! Plus he quotes me :)
We had mucho rain and I went up to Canaan Valley for a conference and it freakin' snowed. Alot. I hate snow. Once I get my photos developed and scanned from Halloween I will post one. I was as cute as can be. Fall does indeed make me sad. I hate the falling leaves the cold weather, the harbringers of winter. Summer is much more my gig. This time of year a good Journey song can bring tears to my eyes. And not only am I not kidding but I am getting kind of misty thinking about "Don't Stop Believing"

McStupid
Among the 10,000 additions to the latest version of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary is "McJobs," -- defined as "low-paying and dead-end work." McDonald's, the world's largest fast-food chain, is not McHappy with the addition, and may just have to McSue. Because of course, a dictionary defining a word as it used by regular people is trademark infringement. This is why I totally hate corporate America.
